Postpartum period starts immediately after childbirth and generally lasts six to

eight weeks. Your body goes through many physical and emotional changes during

this time, with some symptoms lasting months after you give birth. Getting rest,

allowing your body time to heal and eating nutritious foods can help you

recover from childbirth.

Postpartum depression isn't entirely preventable but here are some tips that can

help prevent postpartum depression:

  • Be realistic about your expectations for yourself and your baby.

  • Limit visitors when you first go home.

  • Ask for help — let others know how they can help you.

  • Sleep or rest when your baby sleeps.

  • Exercise — take a walk and get out of the house for a break.
